How it works
How video compression works
Video Compressor re-encodes your video with a lower CRF-based quality target and an adjustable encode preset, trading a small amount of visual quality for a much smaller file. Faster presets encode quicker but produce slightly larger files; slower presets take longer but compress harder for the same visual quality.
Choosing a quality level
A moderate setting keeps most videos visually close to the original while cutting file size significantly — useful for emailing, messaging apps, or upload limits. Push compression further only when file size matters more than fine detail.
Limitations
Uploads are capped in size for reliable processing, and only MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI files are accepted here. For very large files or advanced editing needs, dedicated desktop software may work better.
Frequently asked questions
Will compressing reduce quality?
There's a small, usually hard-to-notice quality tradeoff for a much smaller file. You can re-run the tool with a less aggressive setting if the result looks too soft.
How much smaller will my file be?
It depends heavily on the source — screen recordings and already-compressed video shrink less than raw camera footage. Most everyday videos see a significant reduction.
