Extract Audio — free online tool

This tool separates the soundtrack from your own videos: a recorded class, a meeting recording, an interview, a music rehearsal. Vidlora discards the picture and encodes only the sound into a lightweight MP3 file that is easy to listen to again, archive or transcribe.

كيفية العمل

How the audio track is isolated

A video contains at least two streams: the picture and the sound. The tool ignores the video stream entirely and decodes only the audio track, which it then encodes to MP3 with FFmpeg. Since no picture data is kept, the final file is very light: an hour of spoken recording stays in the range of a few tens of megabytes, compared with several gigabytes for the original video.

Steps to follow

Choose your video file, start the extraction, then download the MP3 once processing is done. The wait depends on the length of the audio to encode, not on the image resolution. Listen to the start and end of the resulting file before deleting the source video, to make sure all the content is there and the volume suits you.

What it is used for

Extraction is mostly used for content you own: getting the sound of a recorded class so you can listen while walking, isolating the voice from an interview to transcribe it, pulling the track from a concert you filmed yourself, or archiving a video call recorded with the participants' consent. Make sure you only process content you have the rights or permission to use, and respect the privacy of the people recorded.

Quality and settings

The audio bitrate sets the balance between size and fidelity. For speech, a moderate bitrate remains perfectly intelligible; for music, a higher bitrate is better to preserve the highs and the detail. Keep in mind that MP3 encoding is lossy: the file cannot be better than the original track, and poor sound at capture will remain poor after extraction.

Supported formats

Input: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and AVI, with any common audio codec (AAC, Opus, Vorbis, MP3, and so on). Output: an MP3, playable everywhere, from old car stereos to smart speakers. This setup is deliberately simple; for a lossless format such as WAV, use the MP3 to WAV conversion tool, bearing in mind that it does not restore the quality lost in the first encoding.

Troubleshooting

If the resulting file is silent, the original video may have had no audio track, which happens with some screen recordings. If the volume is low, that is the source's volume: the tool does not amplify it. If your video contains several audio tracks, for example in several languages, generally only the main track is kept. Check the result before deleting the original.

القيود

The output is an MP3: encoding is lossy and the volume is not changed. Only MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and AVI videos are accepted, and if there are several audio tracks, only the main one is processed. Use it only on content you have the rights to.

الأسئلة الشائعة

What is the format of the audio file I get?

An MP3 file, compatible with virtually all players, smartphones and software. To get a WAV file, you can then use the MP3 to WAV conversion tool.

What is the difference from Video to MP3 and MP4 to MP3?

The result is the same type of file. The pages differ in their purpose: this one covers any soundtrack extraction, while the other two focus on converting to MP3 from all formats or from MP4 only.

Is my video modified?

No. The file is read to extract its sound, then deleted after processing. Your original on your device stays untouched, and nothing is kept long term on our servers.

Can I extract only part of the sound?

Not directly. The tool processes the entire track. To keep a specific section, first trim the video with the video trimmer, or cut the resulting MP3 with the audio cutter.

Why is the file silent?

The video probably has no audio track, like some screen recordings made without a microphone. Check that it actually plays sound in a player before processing it.

Can I use this tool on any video?

Technically yes, but legally no. Use it for your own recordings or content you have permission to use, because extracting the soundtrack from protected works may infringe copyright.
