How GIF conversion works
Video to GIF samples frames from your video at a chosen frame rate and scales them down, since GIF files grow very large at full video resolution and frame rate. A shorter clip and lower frame rate keep the GIF small enough to share easily.
Keeping file size reasonable
GIFs have no audio and use simple per-frame compression, so they're much larger per second than an equivalent MP4. Trimming to the essential few seconds first, before converting, gives the smallest, sharpest result.
Limitations
Uploads are capped in size for reliable processing, and only MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV files are accepted here. For very large files or advanced editing needs, dedicated desktop software may work better.
